Burnett and Andrew Dembowski, along with so many friends and family, have worked to create a place that’s welcoming and safe for people fleeing violence and prosecution whether abroad or in the United States. You can stay at the Umoja House for 1 day or 12 months, we can help you prepare for the next chapter of your story!

Named after the Haitian-American refugee best known as member of the Fugees

Laleh Pourkarim Room

Named after the Swedish-Iranian singer that fled persecution in Iran in 1982

Ilhan Omar Room

Named after the Somali-American who fled the Somali civil war there and was elected to the U.S. House of Representative in 2018.

Albert Einstein Room

Named after the Nobel Prize-winning physicist and Jewish refugee who fled Nazi Germany
